Emily Small, PsyD

Clinical Intern

Emily believes that the foundation of successful therapy is a strong relationship between therapist and client. She strives to create an authentic, collaborative, and supportive space in which her clients can feel comfortable exploring what keeps them stuck and how to accomplish their goals.

Emily is experienced in delivering evidence-based interventions to adolescents, young adults, and adults, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), interpersonal therapy, and radically open dialectical behavioral therapy (RO DBT).

Emily has completed previous clinical externship placements at a variety of sites in New York, including both the Psychological Services Center and the Center for Healthy Living at Long Island University, The Brooklyn College Personal Counseling Program, and Zucker Hillside Hospital's Perinatal Psychiatry Center. She delivers treatment in both individual and group settings, and has facilitated various forms of group therapy, including interpersonal process groups, support groups, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills groups.

Emily's goal is to help clients develop and maintain a fulfilling life in which they are able to achieve their own goals. Emily strives to demonstrate flexibility in her approach to ensure that treatment is tailored to the needs of each individual, and encourages her clients to play a collaborative role in their care.
