Maya Stevenson, LMSW
Staff Clinician
Maya is committed to building a warm and compassionate space for her clients. She develops individualized treatment plans that center client autonomy, rooted in the belief that joy can be found even amid life's most challenging moments. She collaboratively fosters an encouraging environment where clients feel seen and understood, while actively creating pathways toward a meaningful life.
Maya received her bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and her master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University. During her graduate training, Maya was a member of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Training Program and completed intensive training in DBT with the Behavioral Tech Institute. She completed her clinical internship at the Child Study Center, part of Hassenfeld’s Children Hospital at NYU Langone, where she provided evidence-based care to children, adolescents, and young adults seeking ways to effectively cope with emotional and behavioral dysregulation.
She specializes in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders with a specific focus on adolescents and young adults experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviors, non-suicidal self-injury, and interpersonal difficulties with peers and family. Maya primarily uses DBT and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in her work alongside individuals and families as they build lives that feel purposeful and aligned with their long-term goals. Additionally, she has experience leading DBT groups for teens and families, offering parent management and skills training, and collaborating with clients’ schools and external providers to offer comprehensive care.
Prior to her clinical training, Maya advocated for health equity and access in a variety of non-profit and academic settings, including roles at the Child Mind Institute and conducting research to address mental health disparities among marginalized communities. Growing up with a multicultural background (Black and Japanese), Maya’s clinical interests also include anti-oppressive treatment adaptations for clients navigating concerns related to social identity development and belonging. She is committed to providing client-centered, collaborative, and affirming care for her clients and their families.
Maya’s rigorous training coupled with her passion for improving mental health outcomes for children, adolescents, and young adults guides her ability to support clients in knowing they have always been enough, just as they are, and to continue dreaming boldly about all they will become.
